多媒体技术（multimedia technology）是利用计算机将文本、图形、图像、声音、动画、视频等多种媒体信息，进行处理和综合集成，以供人机交互使用的一个计算机应用分支。

本章先引入多媒体技术的有关基本概念，然后介绍多媒体技术的特点、意义与发展简史，最后讨论多媒体技术课程的种类与本书的主要内容。
