In video compression algorithms a residual fr a me is formed by subtracting the reference fr a me from the desired fr a me. This difference is known as the error or residual fr a me. The residual fr a me normally has less information entropy, due to nearby video fr a mes having similarities, and therefore requires fewer bits to compress.
