-Temperature measurements have traditionally been performed using discrete temperature sensors like thermocouples, thermostats, and platinum resistance thermometer bulbs. More recently, integrated-circuit-type temperature sensors, which integrate a temperature sensor with communication functions in a one-chip configuration, have become practical and have been applied to temperature measurement in various situations.
